Body Massage
Body Massage is probably as old as Aromatherapy. However there are cave paintings
which show the cave dwellers massaging each other, which could indicate it
going back even further than Aromatherapy. We also know that body massage was
used by the Greeks, Romans and Egyptians both for Cosmetic and Therapeutic
reasons. In the seventeenth century ‘Swedish massage’ was developed by a Swedish
physiologist called Per Henrik Ling, and with some changes and differences
between therapists and regions, this is the form of body massage used today.
The effects and benefits of Body Massage include increasing the circulation,
Relaxing the body, aiding toxin elimination, may aid the sleeping pattern.
Softening and breaking down fatty tissue, softening the skin due to helping
to remove dead skin cells, can increase the metabolic rate, may help improve
muscle tone, May aid swelling, may also aid lethargy. However if it’s your
first treatment please allow at least an extra half hour to include a thorough
consultation. Body Massage can be complemented by: Acupressure, Aromatherapy,
Reflexology.
